About

As the students of ARCH 1120 Basic Design Studio, in this Spring term, we have proceeded with 3 different analytic and synthetic phases comprising the contents of "subject and space," "subjective space," and "intersubjective space."

In the 1st phase, we have tried to analyze and understand the relationships with the subject and space in terms of the anthropometric principles, and movement in kinespheric and scenic spaces by making researches and analytical drawings.

In the 2nd phase, we have designed a caravan for a famous artist (chef, musician, writer, or modern dancer) who will go on a worldwide tour to promote the feasibility and joy of living in a van especially after the pandemic. We have considered the problem of subjective space by working on the trials of a minimum space necessary for the artist's individual and professional lifestyles and provided him/her with comfort on a long journey by our design proposals.

For the 3rd phase, we have assumed that the van will park in Izmir Inciraltı Urban Forest, and the artist will make a public demonstration to meet the visitors who come to see his/her professional skills and have special experiences in a site full of with nature. We have designed the intersubjective space with 3 modules, 2 of which are for having sensory experiences at both the forest and seaside, and 1 of which is for the exhibition of items collected by the artist from different cultures and geographies. The two experience spaces overlap with the professional scope of the artist: experiencing a special taste (chef), musical composition (musician), reading (author), and dance show (modern dancer) in a comfortable and synesthetically integrated way under the trees and at the seaside by our design proposals was the main aim.
